Vietnam – France trade reached nearly US$2.5 billion in the first half of the year

According to General Department of Vietnam Customs, Vietnam’s total exports to France reached US$ 1.58 billion in the first half of 2024, nearly unchanged from the same period in 2023 (US$ 1.57 billion).

Vietnamese exports to France are diverse, ranging from agricultural, forestry, and fishery products to electronics and textiles.

Five commodity groups reached export values of US$ 100 million or more. Phones and components led the way at nearly US$ 278 million, up 8.6% from the same period in 2023, accounting for 17.6% of Vietnam’s total exports to this European market.

Other commodity groups with export values of over US$ 100 million include footwear (US$ 267 million), textiles (US$ 206 million), machinery, equipment, and spare parts (US$ 121 million), and computers, electronic products, and components (US$ 115.5 million).

On the other hand, imports of goods from France reached nearly US$ 883 million, up 11.28% from the same period in 2023.

Pharmaceuticals were the largest import group with a value of US$ 284 million, up 18.48% from the same period in 2023 and accounting for 32.16% of total imports of goods from France.

The other import group with a value of over US$ 100 million in the first half of the year was machinery, equipment, tools, and spare parts, with a value of US$ 106.4 million, up nearly 48% from the same period in 2023.

In terms of trade balance, Vietnam had a trade surplus of nearly US$ 700 million in the first half of 2024.
